This project is inspired by the Thrift shop La Vegan Baddie.
With the COVID-19 situation, people cannot visit La Vegan Baddie since the shop has closed. But with the virtual space we created, our group can mimic the feel of what the thrift shop is and essentially how it looks like (referring to the chilling spot and aesthetic of the space itself) without having to be in the store physically. Likewise, with the users who wish to join our room, the virtual space we created allows users to look back to iconic memories of their childhood from the Y2K era and revisit the feeling of nostalgia without having to dig deep. "Dig deep" refers to hours and hours of stalking old social media accounts, scrolling through thousands of photos from a camera roll to retrieve specific images). The space itself has created a new world where people find themselves coming together (with each user having a unique memory from the era). These unique memories are all triggered by the same memories (referring to the memory wall of our space). The space is heavily inspired by the MySpace look/feel, with a profile as our background image but also by mimicking its famously known function where it plays music when you open a profile. We picked a song that is reminiscent of the era we are paying homage to.These digital assets should represent the user’s memories from the Y2K era.
By allowing users to upload their digital assets to our space, other users can then move or interact with these objects, thus forming a digital connection (linked by the Y2K era) amongst users.
